UK business leaders have called for improved support and mentoring for female entrepreneurs in order to help economic recovery.
A panel which included Julie Meyer (Chief Executive of Ariadne Capital) and Laura Tenison (Founder of JoJo Maman Bebe) discussed the key elements that make a successful female entrepreneur and highlighted the importance of mentoring to help women gain access into the world of business.
The debate came to conclusions that women need to utilise their natural abilities of multi-tasking and communication, in addition to employing their nurturing style to business and personnel.
Ms Tenison, Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year 2010, stated: "Women are natural fixers and cultivators and it is these exact elements that need to be employed in their approach to business.
"This has certainly been my approach to JoJo Maman Bebe, by treating my business as a child. I gave birth to it, developed and invested in it for the long term – something that I believe is a key differentiator for female entrepreneurs today."
The discussion has come as Veuve Clicquot launches its call for 2011 Business Woman of the Year award nominations. Now covering 16 countries, it is the first international award created specifically to recognise the contribution that women have made to business and enterprise.
Brand director of Veuve Clicquot, Elsa Corbineau, added: "With only five women CEOs in the FTSE 100, it’s clear that more needs to be done to nurture rising talent."
